Isobutane, also known as 2-methylpropane, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C4H10 and is a colourless flammable gas at room temperature and pressure. It is slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, etc. It forms explosive mixtures with air and is mainly found in natural gas, refinery gas and cracked gas, obtained by physical separation, and is mainly used to make isooctane by hydrocarbonization with isobutene, as an improver of gasoline octane, and also as a refrigerant
